There is not now, nor has there ever been created a man who has been able to fool God. "For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart." Hebrews 4:12.
You may be able to fool man, but you cannot fool God. I have run across many who have tried to fool others, including me. However they cannot fool God with their words of platitude and false pretense. Today's modern world is chock full of actors who, as William Shakespeare says "that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more. It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." They believe their lives and their vigorous activity have meaning, but when all is said and done, it will be a life full of sound of fury, signifying absolutely nothing.
As the Westminster Catechism says, "the chief end (the main purpose) of man is to Glorify God and to enjoy Him forever..." I have known many very wealthy people who believe they are successful because they have made a lot of money, but in reality they are some of the poorest people on earth, because they don't know God. If your life is spent in the pursuit of material gain and worldly possessions, then you will die a miserable human being and never know the pleasures of everlasting life with Him in Heaven. Have you examined your life lately? One of the poorest people on earth is Bill Gates. I feel sorry for this poor soul. In another hundred years the poor guy will be six feet under the ground, his body having been chewed up by worms, his company probably dead or taken over by another company with more brilliant ideas, but the Church of Christ will still be standing, strong. People will still be singing "Hosanna in the Highest" and praising the Glories of God. "And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." Matthew 16:18
So many endeavors of man have come and gone, but the Church of Christ has prevailed. The Roman Empire at it's peak in 117 AD covered 56,800,000 people and stretched 1,060,000 square miles. The British empire at it's peak in 1913 AD covered 413 million people, or 13.7 million square miles, about 24 percent of the world's land mass. Where are they now? Gone. People are still singing the praises of Jesus in Churches across the world. Fortune 500 companies such as American Motors, Brown Shoe, Studebaker, Collins Radio, Detroit Steel, Zenith Electronics and National Sugar Refining --- all behemoths in 1955 --- Gone! Eastman Kodak, Polaroid, Blockbuster, Lehman Brothers, Bear Stearns, Borders Books --- All Gone! Gone will be every endeavor, attempt, struggle, and effort to glorify man. They are here today, but will be gone tomorrow. The Church of Christ will still be standing. "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away." Jesus in Matthew 24:35, Luke 21:33
