Today's Christian lesson is on handling disappointments. Are you disappointed because you received a bad health report? Are you disappointed because your employer passed you over for promotion? Are you disappointed because your sibling or your spouse suddenly dislikes you? Are you disappointed because your child disrespected you? Are you dealing with job loss? Or perhaps because someone didn't pay you the respect you deserve? Or perhaps you are dealing with an incurable illness?
Believer, do you feel that you have been treated badly? Or in an unfair situation? How you are treated is unimportant because none of it really matters. How you react to it, however, is important. The bottom line is that 50 years from now we will all be dead. It won't matter how much money we left in our bank account, or what position we gained at work, or how many homes we owned, or what type of car we drove. What will matter most is how we have loved God and loved each other. Jesus said it best when he said "Jesus declared, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love others like yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
There is an acronym for this: ALIVE: Always Living In View of Eternity. Are you living "In the World" or living for Eternity? If you are a Believer, you are living for Eternity with the Lord in Heaven. Do you have an Eternity perspective? Or do you have a worldly perspective? Will you end up in Heaven seated with the Lord, or at the end of this world find yourself six feet under the ground being chewed up by worms? The choice is yours. Living with an eternity perspective will help you overcome any and all disappointments here on earth.
