Along with humility, some of the pillars of scripture, when it comes to human conduct, is fear of the Lord, and on listening to correction. The Old and New Testament both stress correction vehemently:
Old:
"Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid." Proverbs 12:1
"Whoever ignores instruction despises himself, but he who listens to reproof gains intelligence." Proverbs 15:32
"Hear instruction and be wise, and do not neglect it." Proverbs 8:33
"For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching a light, and the reproofs of discipline are the way of life," Proverbs 6:23
"My son, do not despise the Lord's discipline or be weary of his reproof, for the Lord reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights." Proverbs 3:11-12
"Whoever heeds instruction is on the path to life, but he who rejects reproof leads others astray." Proverbs 10:17
“Behold, blessed is the one whom God reproves; therefore despise not the discipline of the Almighty." Job 5:17
"Blessed is the man whom you discipline, O Lord, and whom you teach out of your law," Psalm 94:12
New:
"For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it." Hebrews 12:11
"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.," 2 Timothy 3:16-17
"And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons? “My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him. For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.” It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? " Hebrews 12:5-11
"Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness" Galatians 6:1
"Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent." Revelation 3:19
"If you love me, you will keep my commandments." John 14:15
"Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching." 2 Timothy 4:2
Remember, only a fool does not listen to correction, especially from the LORD. Live and learn. Everyone makes mistakes. Learn from your mistakes. Try not to repeat the same mistakes again. Be patient with the folks trying to teach you, because only those who truly care take the time to teach and train up others.
