Today’s Christian lesson is on the widely debated mask and vaccine mandates currently being hotly debated and argued nationwide. As Christians we are called to obey governing authorities as long as obeying them doesn’t violate God’s laws for us (ie. The Bible)
In this world, it is good to know when to stand up for what you believe in, and when to back down and do what you are told. In other words, you need to know which fights to pick. In my humble opinion, fighting the mask and vaccine mandate is not a fight to pick.
Examples of fights Christians should pick, based upon the teachings of the Bible:
- In China, if, say, a Christian family were attempting to have children and there was a one-child policy in the land, and the family wanted to have more than one child.
- In China, or in some other Asian Countries a ban on gathering for Church worship should be vehemently opposed.
- If you are told to kneel or bow down before a God other than YAHWEH. (Read/refer to the Chapter of Daniel to see what to do)
If something is based upon Christian principles, I could understand objecting to the law of the land, but in my humble opinion, the mask and vaccine mandates are not big enough issues to stand up and fight against. The Bible certainly doesn’t say anything about not being vaccinated or not wearing masks. While putting on a mask is extremely demeaning and a stark reminder of being muzzled, it makes sense from a healthcare perspective, and should be obeyed. Likewise with the vaccine.
“Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.” Hebrews 13:17
“Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer. Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God's wrath but also for the sake of conscience.” Romans 13:1-5
“Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work” Titus 3:1
“Be subject for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.” 1 Peter 2:13-17
