Was Carl Sagan a believer...?

Did Carl Sagan believe in God? Was one of the most renowned scientists of the 20th Century a believer? Author of the famous book and television series Cosmos, during his lifetime, Sagan seemed to promote himself as a hardened atheist in a pursuit to promote science and bash religion and religious authority whenever and wherever he could. Yet, during his lifetime, he also wrote and published a stunning fiction novel by the name of "Contact" which, after his death, his wife Ann Druyan permitted to be made into a movie by the same name (Contact.) This is a fascinating, star-studded movie in which Jodie Foster, Matthew McConaughey and Tom Skerritt do a fantastic job. I generally do not recommend movies on this site, and especially not science fiction movies, but this is a "MUST-WATCH",  "do not miss" movie. It is a long, deep, and thought-provoking movie. Get several bags of popcorn and prepare to plop down in front of the tv for 150 minutes straight, as this movie makes you think deeply about the presence of God in our universe, and the nature of "Belief" and "Faith" and what it takes to "Believe" even while the entire rest of the world disses and doubts you. While completely fictional, it does a very good job in examining the so-called "rift" between the endeavors of science and religion.

I would encourage you to watch the movie before you read anything more about it, lest it spoil your surprise, but if you want to read up more about it, here are some helpful links:

This posting is a precursor (and weirdly diametrically opposed) to my next posting about having faith before you can see God's Glory. While "Contact" is fiction, and the movie, while thought-provoking, is fiction, the Bible is not, and my next posting deals with signs, wonders, and miracles of God present in the Bible.
